πŸ€ Have you ever seen such a thing in a blood smear?

This would have been a good St. Patrick's Day tidbit-- I thought about waiting until next March to share this with you, but I couldn't wait that long!

If you've never seen these odd little RBCs in a blood smear, well, now you have.βœ”οΈ

These weird little formations are called quatrefoil RBCs.

Quatrefoil RBCs are essentially hugging each other to form this 2D "four-leaf clover" appearance. 

Why do they do this? We don't really know. 

What does it mean for the patient? Seemingly nothing. 

So, while they may not be the most important finding in your blood smear, they do get a prize for being one of the most fun findings. πŸ†
